YearEndzzz2010

These are what got the most plays on my iPod this year!

wellwellwell

2010 is pretty much over for me!
I'm getting my other two WISDOM teeth out tomorrow
So, before I forget,

I wanted to tell you my Christmas highlights!
I got great crap and 'most importantly' was around great people!

We stayed at Jason's Mom's housey for Christmas Eve
I drank paralyzers but didn't get sloppy

We started watching the Road, but, I was too sleepy, so I went to bed and read an Archie Comic (Pals'n'Gals)

The next morn I could barely get up because of my dumb teeth I had to take TWO T3s!
Then I was floating!

Presents were great!  The best was Instant Hand Sanitizer that smells like CUPCAKES!!!!
And I got a perfume set and more rad rad rad stocking stuffers (incl. the EXACT colour nailpolish I was going to ask to borrow!)

We made breakfast too, but the oven wouldn't work so we had to make the hashbrowns on the BBQ!

Eventuallllly we went to my Grandma's housey in Chilliwack,
and that was super fun and we stayed for dinner there!
I got a blackfancy make up bag set from my Madre + Friends as well as some make-up and a fancy brush!

Grandma got me so many canvases, a record player and a snuggie!!
At first I was like WTFSNUGGIE!  But once I got that thing home... I've never been so warm and comfy in my ENTIRE LIFEE!
I had such a super time there!  Great Grandma came too, and she had the sassiest mouth I've ever heard on an old lady!

After that on our way home to Abbotsford, we stopped at my other Grandparents house!
So I got to TRIPLE OPEN PRESENTZ!!
My grandparents got me FFXIII, some clothes and some other neat stuff
K got me a million chocolates, candles and a stuffed lion holding a coffee crisp
Shan MADE me a super awesome crocheted blanket, which I will post a pic of later!
and Dad got me Black Ops, and pillows and other stuff!!

I hung out with my sisters and the puppies for a bit too, which was nice (along with other family members)

By this time I was supersupersupersupertired and was ready to go home!
AND THAT WAS CHRISTMAS!

Last Day 2010!!!!!!

PAINTING II(complete(kind of))

I just hads my last day of Painting ii with Chris Friesen on Tuesday!
!!!
!
BUT
I still have one more assignment due tomorrow, an optical illusion like this:

It's easy enough to do, with masking tape and etc. but it's going to be super tedious, and it's already late

The last big project I had to do for this class was a 2x3 ft. painting was carte blanche
we could do whatever we wanted.
SO
Being involved with radioradio AND being a Media and Communications student I chose to do something relatable to that.
The themes that I had to work with were: radio advertising, media studies, dystopia, vintage1950s, futuristic, post modernism.
It didn't look like an ad, or dystopian - - - there was a lot more I wanted to do with it, but I got too ambitious... but hey, it was super fun to do, except the lame oil part.

Then:
I finished thee UFO painting I posted foreever ago:

I love outerspace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SHOWSHOW/NOV.27 - -

Yo yo yoYOYO

If y'all tuned in, you'd know it was a mega-shit-show last day!
NOT because of content.
I had slept in and was half an hour late, and missed a would-be-important meeting

I was so frustrated with myself I wasn't a very good hostess!  It was sloppy and awful - BUT
IT WAS A MEGA FUN THEMe
and A sweetshit SECOND H

SO

HALFTHEME: Parents!(the bad kind)

SECONDSECOND:  The WCB(from CANADA) vs. Bertha Cool

Bertha Cool does this thing where they're so new and up and coming that they don't have any releases yet!

LIKE THIS:  Rat King, Sex Witch, Die of Thirst, Beachhouse, Vampire Blood, 2010(BRAND NEW)
Listen to it lots because it's what you've been waiting for!

I had more time then I thought because I am bad at math
so I finished it off with a song longer than the time I had left on my show YIKES!

The Velvet Underground - Sister Ray

Just a note:  Bertha Cool is featured here:  http://blogs.civl.ca/, on CIVL's homepage, civl.ca, AND on http://www.abbotsfordtoday.ca/?p=51467 ... (only I am given no credit for writting it (they don't even give Larry credit and it says he wrote it since I was signed in through ADMIN since I have no account!))

CIVL is doing a like, weekly thing where we 'spotlight' B.C.(ONLY) bands and write up a bio and stuff
I get to do it every other week or something, so if you wanna be that band or artist and you're not too horrible e-mail me at music@civl.ca or you could e-mail Brad, but I'm not going to tell you his e-mail!

!earshot year end picks by your only pal(me)

Yo! These were my picks for the !earshot end of year review thanggg

I am Alicia Williams, host of Mood Swings on CIVL Radio which broadcasts from the Abbotsford campus of the University of the Fraser Valley, I am also the Music Director here. My show focuses mainly on punk, garage and lo-fi – but it ventures to other places as well! I am currently a student at UFV taking Media Studies and Visual Arts and it’s a swell time! I have a blog, but it has too much swearing for you to look at it, sorry!

My Top 3 records of the year

Grown-Ups - Not Friends - (Self-Released)

Easily the best band in Calgary right now, and yeah, I know who else is from there! Josiah Hughes has trail blazed cool since he went to my high school however many years ago – and he’s definitely come a long way since The Hand.

The Black Angels – Phosphene Dream - (Blue Horizon Records)

One of the first albums I’ve listened to from start to finish in a long time! They remind me a lot of the Brian Jonestown Massacre – not in a rip-off sense – but in the way they sound like they could be from any time period late 1960’s onward.

The Bitters – East General - (Mexican Summer)

Everything Ben Cook does (now) is amazing! The Bitters are one of the most unique, dark, pop, garage bands I’ve ever heard – they say on myspace.com they are ‘cave pop,’ which is a totally perfect description.

Most under-rated record of the year

Petroleum By-Product – Superficial Artificial - (Mona Mona Records)

They’re a Vancouver based darker sounding new wave band, they’re super good, and I would love to see them chart more at our station and everywhere in the world! Their sound ranges anywhere from the B-52’s to Siouxsie and the Banshees, definitely check them out!

Most over-rated record of the year

Arcade Fire – Suburbs - (Merge)

This album has been charting around the top 5 since it came out in August. Personally, I don’t like Arcade Fire and think all of their music sounds boring, bland and cliché. I just don’t get it I guess.

Best local release
Ex-Friends – XFREN - (Self-Released)

I went to high school with 2/3 of the young adults in this band. They’re from Vancouver, and they have a very snotty, sassy, punk, everywhere kind of sound. My favourite tracks are Never Been Arrested and I Want to Move Out. They’ve since broken up because one of their members has moved to Toronto, Ontario, but you can still get both of their releases on this blog http://ghostplus.blogspot.com/ as well as a plethora of other Abbotsford area releases!

Best personal campus/community radio moment or experience of the year.

My favourite radio moment this year would have to be my interview with Joe Jack Talcum formerly of the Dead Milkmen. I’ve been a fan of the Dead Milkmen since I was a teen, so that will probably be my favourite radio moment forever!

Record you are most anticipating for 2011

I’m not really sure, I know Wire is releasing a new album called Red Barked Tree, but I don’t know how good it’s going to be – keeping in mind I haven’t really listened to anything they’ve put out in the recent decade. I’m just crossing my fingers hoping it will be as good as their 1978 release, Chairs Missing.

LATELATEL.A.T.E. --- Last Mondayfunday!

You loved it!

ADreview - MACS(z)

This is thee ad review I had to do for Darren's Advertising as Social Communication class!!

Here's the ad:
The ad I chose to analyze is from the back cover of a Naked Eye magazine issue from last summer. Naked Eye is a young, hip Canadian quarterly magazine that promotes itself as being “Canada’s only pop culture magazine.” This magazine tries very hard to be as hip as it is, of course, it isn’t Vice circa 2005, but the writers do their best to try to inform 20-somethings about what’s in and out in a variety of categories. This being said, you can see why Belvedere would choose to use this magazine to advertise in, rather than something like Women’s World or Popular Science.

The ad itself is for Belvedere Vodka and it features a girl with a surprised look on her face putting on red lipstick whilst her face is right beside an assumed male’s private area. We all know what sexual act this is a not-so-subtle reference to and it is quite obvious that the ‘hidden’ meaning behind this ad is alcohol equals sexual activity, but not just any alcohol, specifically Belvedere Vodka ‘The world's first super premium vodka.’

I find this ad to be important because I think it’s weird that there was no controversy surrounding it. Though, maybe these days an ad doesn’t spark a social backlash unless it uses a staged gang rape a la Dolce and Gabbana to sell products. Maybe I am just too old and set in my ways to see the humour or relevance of using oral sex to promote and sell alcohol. Despite not agreeing with this image’s message, especially in accordance to the product being sold, I find the colour usage to be very aesthetically pleasing. The ad subtly uses two sets of complimentary colours which drew my eyes in a lot more than if they had chosen to use a batch of random colours. The complimentary sets are blue/orange and red/green. This colour usage makes the ad pop out more which in turn leaves a lasting impression on the viewer. Terry Richardson, the person who took the photograph for this ad definitely knew what to do to grab people’s attention. The use of complimentary colours I am sure is not an accident – it wasn’t an accident when Van Gogh painted his room using the same colour schemes, so the he obviously knew something about art and how to draw people in through use of colour. This and the ad’s lack of intimidating or graphic sexual content make it so it doesn’t cause a lot of people to be speaking out against it, but it keeps you thinking about it, which is exactly what Belvedere paid for when hiring a professional photographer to do their ad.

I think there are two social issues at play in this ad. The first one is the fact that she is the one about to perform the act on the male, not vice versa. Feminists from the second and third wave would probably say something here about the fact that he probably treats her like a sexual object, he dominates her, and she more than likely feels as though she has to perform this act on him for him to like her or to not seem like a freeze or a prude. The second, which ties into the first issue, is the promotion of alcohol in a magazine for hipsters in their twenties, as well as relating alcohol to sexual acts. Personally, I feel weird not drinking because I know almost everyone else my age is perpetually wasted, and this ad enforces the stereotype that everyone college-aged should be drinking and having fun, which makes those who do not engage in such activities feel like social outcasts. To tie the alcohol to sexual acts specifically, the ad portrays a generation of people who get drunk and ‘fool around,’ in a society that hasn’t been as openly and acceptably promiscuous since the age of the Roman Empire.

Conclusively, I feel that this ad is a terrible image of the state of what we now consider social norms. I’ve scoured the internet for any sort of negative feedback regarding the image and found nothing. The ad has good usage of colours but sets a bad example of what normal, beautiful twenty year olds are actually doing. If the female/male roles were reversed I might have a completely different opinion on the subject, but until then, this ad is too concerned with enforcing negative stereotypes for me to put any more thought into it.

I got an A!  It's kinda everywhere sometimes because I did it the day it was due.
Evening classes are beautiful.

PAINTINGII

I'm taking painting two with Chris

it's sweet

we've had to do lame colour chartsboring(ugghh)
a tri coloured image of our choosing(2x2) Kim Gordon/Kathleen Hanna - a few weeks(lazzzyyy)
an impressionist painting - replica or our own image(2x3) Mad Max II: The Road Warrior - a night and a day
a b+w greyscale smooth transition painting (1x1) A Spaceship! - a few hours - not done

So, I will now show you these paintings.

The grey one isn't done yet! Its gonna have hoops chillin'/coming out of the bottom so it
1) doesn't look so empty there
2) so it looks cool
and it's a little uneven so I'll fix that shit up too, I hope the teacher approves - he insinuated I was a slacker!
I'm actually surprised that one is almost done!  Its not due until the end of the month!

Vase-Vase-Vaselines!!!

Saturday was my birthday
It was fun and I got to hang around with lots of old buddies and new buddies (radio friends and regular friends)

We all went and saw the Vaselines and, to a lesser extent, the DumDum Girls

DumDum Girls opened with a boring-ish (but kind of good because I was a little drunk already) cover of Play With Fire by you know who off of the you know what soundtrack!

They were pretty in a normal alternative way  - quiet and covered in make-up
All in all they were too much like Vivian Girls - only Vivian Girls seem like they have some personality....

We stopped caring about them and went out and had smokes.

When the Vaselines started we went back inside, and found a spot close-ish to the front - but unfortunetly right by the bathroom so people kept passing by and being lame.

They played a whole bunch of classics and some new songs, they did not play Teenage Superstars though

The girl beside/in front of me and Tawnia kept farting smelly, quiet farts.  One of the guys standing by us pinched his nose closed and nudged the girl he was with and I saw his lips say "Let's go"

obviously they came back out for an encore after trying to be so tricky and pretending they were done

When they were done for real they got off stage like right beside where we were standing and I tugged Francis' sleeve and asked if she wanted to do an interview with CIVL Radio, and she declined...

I was HELLLA disapointed
but, I went to the merch table to buy a t-shirt anyways.  people kept budging in front of me!
Francis actually came to the merch table so I decided I should buy a record and have her sign it, because I didn't want to ruin the tee I was buying already.

She signed the record "Happy Birthday" and my name and her name obviously and I asked her "So, are you sure you don't want to do an interview"
and she agreed to do one!!!

So we all went outside to smoke and make up questions, and then i wandered around for a bit more until she was ready and then helped her carry the bins of merch backstage
We were in this tiny loud room where the whole band was and it was super sweaty and gross!

But it got done and will air not this monday but next monday (Nov. 8)
you can hear the questions then and they will be posted here shortly after that.

Afterwards we all went to the Biltmore Pub and got wasted-er
and everything was cool, but I really wanted to stay the night at the hotel
so I wound up crying - esp. after the free birthday shot of fireball uggghh
This is Jason's fault for feeding me liquor and not being around to take the shot that I didn't even want!

Until the leaving part we all had a stellar time I think!

The Vaselines are swell and if they're coming to your town go see them!

Review: Bump-Its

I found a wall of Bump-Its at Bed, Bath and Beyond for 3.99 a box on clearance!

Needless to say, the ads on TV made me feel like they were something I HAD to have!
So far (Since 3 days ago-ish) I've only found use for the middle one.  The biggest one is too Snookie and the little one is useless and I don't understand.

They're surprisingly comfortable and easy to use, but it's like as soon as I put it on my head it's tangled because my hair is always such a knotted mess!

I should also mention that I don't have to use very much hair spray with it!  The box tells me to spray medium strength hair spray, back comb, place bump it in hair, spread hair over it, and then use strong hold hair spray!  I use that cheap $1.99 stuff and don't do a finishing spray and it's all fine and well and good and ok and it doesn't move or anything.

My head usually hurts after I take it off though, but whatever, right?

This is how I do mine hair now:

Only, as I'm sure you know, mine is a lot messy-eerr and gross, and my pony is higher

I totally love these already, and apparently if I put it on the crown of my head I look less J.Shore and more glamourous!
The biggest one will come in handy if I ever wanna do a beehive, but I don't really wanna do a beehive!

Also, girls I talked to in my class had no idea I was using it!  ! !!

I FORGOOOT TO TELLLSS YOU!

I forgot to tell you about the last time I babysat my Bro-seph like a trillioninfinity million years ago(last month-ish)

Anyways,
He ignored me and played the XBOX360 which I totally regret bringing
in fact, the only times he didn't ignore me were when I fucked up on the ZZa and when we went and rented a videogame (that I now have $$$$latefeess$$$ on)

we did have a few neat conversations

Bro: "How many controllers do you have"
Me:  "Two, there's only two of us"
Bro:  "Oh yeah, you and Jason"
Me:  "Yeah, we don't really have any friends...."
Bro:  "That's probably because you're too much of a bully"

hurtful
but this also happened

he kicked my leg
Bro: "You're fat"
Me(trying to joke): "No, you're fat"
Bro: "No, but you're actually fat"

:'(
tru dat brah
oh well

between the two of us we had 7(seven) Coke Zeros
it was sick

and all he did was play this game we rented that was created by Rockstar and totally not age appropriate!

Science!

We went to Science World yesterday,
My Grandma and I

and it was the Body Works exhibit and it was super cool and I learnt a lot, I guess
I liked the fetus development part especially

BUT
I don't really think it is a place for 0-5 year olds, do you?
There were like 3 crying babies and a bunch of dumb kids ruining my time.
It's not Lego or Grossology, its fucking muscles, tendons human body Body Works
DON'T BRING YOUR KIDS
It's all reading and stuff, and your kid probably can't read that well, so you fucking feel the need to read out loud so that your idiot child can try to comprehend what's happening

Other than this and a noteworthy MouthBreather I had a swell time with Grandma!
Especially after we had gone through the exhibit and no longer felt the need to be quiet out of courtesy,
since I don't really know how to whisper

Afterwards there were lots of table top brain teasers and body experiments you could try, and we had lots of fun!

Outside of Science World we walked over to where that park is and look at what was up with BC Place or whatever, and that was neat
and on the hill we saw this like 11 year old girl making out with like a 7 or 8 year old boy
But the guy coulda just been small for his age and her big for her age, you know?
but it was really weird

Then we went to Ikea and I ate meatballs and marinara and pasta and garlic bread and root beer
and Grandma had Chili and garlic toast,
and we shared a sampler dessert

theeeeen we looked around the whole store and my feet hurt really bad after and my Grandma wouldn't buy me couches...

AND we bought this root beer from Sweden!

then we hopped on over to Bed Bath und Beyond
and that place was neat!  We looked at everything available and Grandma said what she wants for Christmas and we sat in massaging chairs and mine kinda hurt but kinda felt good

In the end, I bought Jason a table lamp for 6.99 ONLY and a neat little book to write in that has (eastern) Indian designs and colours on it because thats hip for little books you can write in right now
and I bought bump its!!!!!!!!!!  they were only 3.99 and I've wanted them since before Snookie denied using them!!!!!  STOKED!

I can't remember what Grandma bought because I am too self involved

On the way home traffic was backed up real bad going towards Vancouver which made me ROFL
and we cracked open thee Root Beer from Sweden and it smelt strong like alcohol and tasted like Bacardi
and Grandma said "I don't think I should be drinking this now"
and I tried it and said I didn't want mine because it made me shiver like alcohol
and she told me to keep it and serve it to my friends and impress them... I don't know why ahahha <3

but yeah, we had a superfunawesome day like we usually do!!

I also forgot to mention that the whole time we listened to Sonic Youth Confusion is Sex/Kill Yr. Idols
and when Shaking Hell (I'll take off your dress/I'll shake off your flesh) came on she looked at the stereo and was likeee "oh my gaaawwdd"

She's so amazing!  If you wanna come hang out with us next time message me!

YES!turdEh? UND todaaaii

GUESS WHAT!?!!?!?

Tawnia got me my first, and kind of second, birthday presseeennt!!

We were at CD Plus in Chile and its hella better than anywhere in the AB-MIS-CHI area, so we found some tight deals there!!

They even had a Vivian Girls cd there!  But that is not what Tawnia got me!
We found a cd copy of Sonic Youth Confusion is Sex/Kill Yr. Idols
and if you paid any attention to me AT ALL you'd know that's my favourite album ever(by them)

We did a bunch o other things in Chillsie too, like Tawnia had to go get steal toews at that Mark Works place and eat at the mall, which was kind of gross but still pretty good

Then back in ye olden Abbotsford we went to a 1$ store and found nothing, though I found a bunch of stuff I would need if I was Rockabilly
Then to VV which we totally shoulda done in Chilliwack since its better for some reason
AND I saw my old step dad and we did the Avoid Eye Contact At All Costs Mambo
AND I GOT AN MTV SHIRT which I've wanted forever but they try to charge you a fortune on eBay and at Old Navy they put lame flowers on them.

I love MTV Canada more than most people love their parents.
In fact, if it weren't for MTVNEWS I wouldn't be into swell bands like Jay Reatard and No Age!

NOW
I'm waiting for my sweetheartGrandma to pick me up and we're going to see the BodyWorks display thing at ScienceWorld!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'M SUPER STOKED!

THEN
Afterwards I think we are going to go to Tony Parsons' restaurant the Poor Italian
because we're in love with him

Fifth: I am painting a still from the video for Bull In The Heather of Kim and Kathleen

Seventh: Despite sounding like Black Lips I really like this band Demon's Claws, they are newer
Eighth: I got 19.5/20 on my first Sociology assignment and am kind of upset I didn't get 20
Ninth: Jason is too pretentious for Jay-Z and Beyonce, starting NOW

Eleventh: I missed my last radio show due to devestating sneezesnot illness
Twelveth: All we ever do is watch Pawn Stars

More is happening but I don't care.
My shoes are taped together and I switched to Diet Coke
Great Value chocolate isn't as gross as you think
My underneath nails are dirty and I recently plucked my eyebrows after a month of them running rampant on my eyelids

NOT "down with the sickness"

I have the grossest flu right now!
I learned in WMST that if y'all are compatable then y'all won't get sick when you give each other sloppy gross open mouth kisses.

Science is retarded I guess.

SO now I'm super fucking sick, and we're broke zeros and all we have to eat pretty much are eggs!!
AND I had to cancel my radio show :(
AND I've fallen behind in English so now I wanna drop it.
AND I've got mega paintings due for Painting II
AND I've got my first assignment due for Soc. 101
AND I'm missing MACS today!
AND We just bought a FLAT of Diet Coke but I'm too sick it hurts my throat with it's delicious bubbles

but I can't even focus my brain on books.
I just want to watch those fat slobs walk around and breath heavily on PawnStars...

UGHHH

on the bright side I get to take the echinacea medicine that is super expensive but tastes really really good.
AND me and jason watched Total Recall yesterday morning because we were so sick to wanna do anything else!

it sucks having no money (thanks to SUS and Jim Pattison) though, because I realllaaayayy wantttt BoosterJuice :(

Reviewzzzzz....zzzzz

Heyy!
These are the reviews I did for the new issue of the CIVLian, which is out now and you can get on campus at UFV!

The Descendants – Milo Goes To College 1982
I just recently picked this album up after watching a video of Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend do a cover of Parents with Toronto hardcore band, Fucked Up. Before listening to this album in full, all I had heard from The Descendants were boring songs, like Silly Girl and songs on Punk-O-Rama compilations – I was beginning to think the only good song they had was Hope. This entire album is great, it’s fast, sassy and P.A.F., plus, it’s only 22 and a half minutes long, so if you don’t like it (you will like it) you will not have wasted your whole day! This is one of the few albums that make it seem like the 80’s weren’t a total waste of a decade.

Women – Public Strain 2010

Women are an incredible band, but I think they may be one of those bands who impact you more when you listen to them alone. I don’t mean on your iPod, I mean alone in your room. They’re a great band to listen to when you lie in bed and stare at the ceiling, and I mean that in the greatest way possible. They’re quiet, but they’re not boring, and they’re intense, but not in your face. If you have a ‘bands to watch’ list, then these guys should be on there for sure, they’re mega-up-and-coming CanCon. Listen to: China Steps, Heat Distraction, and Narrow With the Hall.

Rich Aucoin – Public Publication 2010

This album kind of reminds me of a less intrusive version of Black Kids. It has a really familiar vibe to it, but not in a copy-cat/rip-off way. The vocals seem to be at like the same sound level as the music, which is cool because everything blends together in a unique way. Rich Aucoin is a quiet kind of intense. You should definitely check this guy out, because I think very soon you’ll be able to say cool sentences like: “I liked him before everyone else did,” or something else to that extent! There are only four tracks, so listen to them all!

B.A. Johnston – Thankyou for Being a Friend 2010
This is totally not my kind of music, generally I say things like “folk/acoustic sucks,” but this guy, B.A. Johnston, has such a funny take on the genre that it is impossible not to like! He sings about things you liked when you were a kid, like NBA Jam and Steve Guttenberg (don’t pretend you didn’t love Three Men and a Baby, because we ALL did). The entire album is like a satiric look at the happenings in his life, and I like that, when people don’t sing about love or drugs, but sing about their everyday lives and opinions. This is the kind of music that isn’t given any justice listening to, you really need to go out and see him live to get the full experience. Check out: Love=NBA Jam, CLIF, and I am Doing Better in a Parallel Universe.

No Warning – Suffer, Survive 2004
No Warning is one of Ben Cook’s (from Fucked Up, The Bitters, The Marvellous Darlings, and Young Governor) first projects. I just became friends with this guy on Facebook, and am usually grotesquely stoked on EVERYTHING he does, but this is just bad. Maybe it’s just me, but the more I listen to it the more I hear an ultra-aggressive version of Linkin Park, sans rapcore. The vocals (done by Ben Cook) are really surprising because if you listen to his solo project Young Governor it’s a completely different sound. A lot of my favourite CanCon is done by Fucked Up and all of the members’ side projects, but this a band I am not going to let circulate on my iPod and mess up my pristine Last.fm profile. Sorry.

Pissed Jeans – King of Jeans 2009

Pissed Jeans are another entry on the long list of things I like in Pennsylvania. The vocals are uniquely aggressive, at times it almost sounds like he’s slurring and at the same time chanting. The music itself is really crisp and chaotic and that mixed with the vocals makes for a really cool sound! They’re the perfect amount of loudness for me, and a lot of their songs have that ‘anthem-y’ feel to them. Listen to: Lip Ring, She is Science Fiction and Dominate Yourself for sure!

Yeah, so if you want a hard copy of these thoughts you should pick yoself up an issue!  PLUS you'd get to see a SUPERCUTE/reallyblurry picture of me!!!!!  YAY

uhhh, HELLO

Dearest Wal Mart,

I found the perfect pair of pants today, deep within your fluorescent caverns.
They were grey (the best colour for pants), and they had this really cool wash (a wash I don't think ACE girls would wear!!!)

I put them against my body, and they were gonna fit my big bad self, but waaaay too long for my leggies

and then I turned them over, and what did I see???

FUCKING EMBROIDERED FLOWERS AND FUCKING GEMS!!!!1

Why, why do you ruin everysingle thing you make with something so retarded!!

I don't even know what else to say to you right now....

-Alicia

P.S. Make bigger pants (sans gems/embroidery)

BIRTHDDAAAY LISST!

Heeey!
so, a few years ago I had what was the worst day of my life, you know, so far.  That day also happened to be my birthday, so since then it really hasn't been the same and my life really hasn't been the same.  The experience made me quit drinking(for the most part) and rethink my life and friendships and etc.

I don't want to write about it really on my blog, because this blog is cheap and meaningless.

I WILL HOWEVER! Tell YOU what to BUY ME for my birthday!!!!!  Yay!

Dis iz it:

NEWIPODNEWIPODNEWIPOD -- green, black or blue 16GB!!!! GUHGUHGUH

Catcher in the Rye (because I just reread a book that was called a modern day version of, and I feel like it's something I should read because it's a cultclassic type -my book was The Perks of Being a Wallflower)

There are two perfumes(OTHER THAN VANILLA FIELDS) that I like, they are: Chanel - Chance and Juicy Couture -Viva La Juicy, theres two different ones and I like the pink one!  It smells like burnt marshmellows in the nicest way possible!!!

I want lots of stuff with elephants, but I don't want dumb things that look like toys from places in the malls or wal marts, you know?  I like it when things are more unique and I feel like I'm the only one in the world who could possibly have it, even though that is probably impossible!

cool glasses frames are cool.  I really want cat eye glasses, but not the black ones.  I want them to be lie creamy coloured from oldness with sparkles or something.  or the ones that are black on the top and clear a lot.  You know, the ones that are really hipstertrendy right now, only it's okay because I am not a hipster.

MATTE NAILPOLISH

a digital camera so I have something nice to take FB pictures with!  I like the polka dot one and theres a new one called Flip that I used to like, but some youtube.com video told me it sucked and only took video!

Hook & the Daggers - This is Ballroom Thrash
Gravedigger V - All Black and Hairy

NEW HEADPHONES! Thee earbud kinds, not the big gothic industrial raverloser kind!!!

good liquid eyeliner that doesn't smudge and is easy to use!

There's gotta bee more stuff I "need" butttt thats all I can think of at the moment!

If you enjoy reading my blog and aren't a sex pervert you can message me and I will give you my address so you can send me nice gifts!! (please do not send me gross stuff like your excrement)

don't tell Jason that I'll give you my address, he'll be fucking choooooked!

ALSO:  You are invited to my birthday party!  We're all going to the Vaselines at the Biltmore.
don't ask me when because 1) you should know, and 2) you can look it up and not look like an idiot

G had papaya, and I had chocolate!  I'm not allowed to post the two pics I took of Grandma becausee she didn't like them <3 BUUUUTT, this was the lid on my bubble tea and I was superstoked on it!

Then we went and got my supplies for painting ii, which was 254!!!!!  guuhhh!
then we went to winnerz and I got a new wallet that isn't leopard print, but is way better

It's dark purple and has blue flowers outlined allll over it and those circles are the gross insides/middles of flowers that get all over your hands and feel gross (when they're real)

So that was dope, I love new stuff!
But more than stuff, I love Grandma, and it was superfun hanging out with her!
Because we haven't really done that lately!

SO, on TWOSDAY, for the welcomoe back to UFV BBQ, CIVL got to (as with everyyear) DJ and etc. on the green in the CIVLtent!  It was super awesome, and I got to DJ for awhile while Larry was in class!!  So I was live and on the airwaves and speaking in front of a buttload of people who were only half paying attention!

I played quite a bit of music, so it's hard for me to remember exactly what I played,
I played some songs/artists that I didn't personally like, but it helped to promote upcoming concerts/events being put on at UFV by student organizations like SUS, CIVL, the Cascade etc!

But I also got to play killertraxxx that I like and promoted my show, Mood Swings a little bit!
I know for shore I played
BERTHA COOL - RAT KING
Atom and His Package - Punk Rock Academy
Liars - Freak-Out
The Gories - Thunderbird ESQ
GROWN UPS- We're Not Friends and Waste Your Life

NEW SEMESTERRR!!!!!

Holla Balla,

I had my first class today of my brand new semester!!  The summer semester was a roughdeal time, I didn't really get a break between that and the winter semester and my grade I think reflect that.  PLUS, I'm not quite a morning person yet, so it was dumb times to take a bunch of crapmorningblahblah classes!  The classes were good, but I was always dead tired!

ANYWAYS,
I'm taking English 105 online, because I hear it's a total drag face2face.  The first day of an online course you have to do a dumb introduction so everyone gets to know each other, but you already know that, right?  So, this was mine:
Hello! My name is Alicia Williams, I'm 21, and I am in my second year here at UFV. So far, I've mostly taken Media and Communications courses, which are incredible! I have yet to decide on my major, it's a toss up between Visual Arts and Sociology - with a MACS minor/extended minor.
In my spare time I play video games, surf the internet for interesting music and invite people to my birthday. I also host a radio show on our community/campus radio station 101.7 CIVL, I do this every Monday from 12-2 pm. My show is called Mood Swings and on it I play mostly punk, lo-fi and garage!
That's really all I do, I have no job and no kids.
It used to take me forever to do those, but now I don't give any shits about what the onlineclassfatties think of my bad self.

Today I had Sociology 101.  My teacher is Anita van Wyk, I chose to take a class with her because of her rating on RateMyProff.com, I go on there to find which teacher is NICEST, I don't care how easy/difficult he/she is as a proff, as long as their nice to me and don't make me scorn their name!

I am ALREADYBEYONDSTOKED on her!  I showed up late, not my fault, but was there in time to hear this GOLDEN quote about if you miss a class/exam/assignment.  She said: "I don't care if your great-grandpa died and your great grandma is sad and needs you there, or if you are sad or mentally disturbed, I DONT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT."  As you may know, from knowing me IRL or maybe just from reading my blog, this is enough to make me LOVE a teacher!!
BUT IT GETS BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  When I got there a sheet was being passed around with our presentation topics already assigned to us... this is something that otherwise frustrates me, until I finally got to see which on I got

SOCIAL MOVEMENTS!!!!!!!!

I KNOW RIGHT, fucking peeeerrrfect!!!!  This class isn't gonna know what hit them come Decemeber 1, 2010!!  I even told her I was unbelievably stoked on my topic (as well as apologized for being late)

I say words like "stoked, totally, nice, choice, sweet" etc to teachers because I feel that the next generation of socalledintellectuals are going to speak like that and not be fakesmartoversmart, you know?!  And I don't like being fake, I like being real.

I'VE HAD SUCH AN AMAZING WEEK SO FAR!  which totally makes up for the shitfuck weekend I had!!!

I have hella radio news too, but I'll discuss that in a different post to avoid confusion.

Thursday, August 12, 2010

forshore!

I've been so busy with things that don't include blogging regularly that I've forgotten to blog regularly!

Who cares about most things, what important is what I'm about to write about!

I am going to dye my hairsoonsoonsoon!!
DON'T pay attention to who this picture is of, but I saw a preview for the new season and she has the exact red I tried for last time, only she has lots of money to get it right (kinda)
That'd be super dope, right?!

Also, some life changing news, I am soon to get two more tattoos.
One'll be an elephant dressed in Indian attire:

I didn't draw this but I think it's supercute!
Only, I'll choose my own colours and the tusks won't be cut!
I'll probs get it on the side of my thigh - I'm thinking the right one.
AND I don't care if the trunks raised - because believing something could be bad luck is stupid.

The other will be something like the figures on the cover of this book:

Only, I'll make it look like me and dress it in clothes that I wear.
I've always wanted to get a tattoo that references feminism,
but the Venus symbol or the Venus symbol with the fist are too obvious.
Feminism is the only thing that makes me feel anything.
It's the only thing that can make me cry without hurting my feelings
so I think it is suiting to commemorate it on my skin, permanently.
I think I'll get this on my right leggy above my heel area, but not all up on my calf.

So that's what's gonna go down body-wise.
As Well, I'm going to get my ears pierced,
I 'found' a giftcertificate for an disreputable tattoo parlor place in Abbotsford,
buuuuuut I don't want another tattoo that looks like it was done in prison,
so I'm just getting my ears done there.
I don't have my ears pierced!

Last Week Sucked

I had like a billion (2) assignments due!

One was a presentation in my Simpson's course.  It had to be 25-30 minutes long, I think mine was just under or just over 20.  But that wasn't the only way I came up short, I feel the presentation had lots of holes, and could have used more work.  Also, the PowerPoint sucked, and I didn't take my eyes off the paper the whole time.

But it's done with, and I don't care as long as I get like a B, which I probably/hopefully will!
So that's what I did on Wednes.

FRIDAY, I had to have a 3x3 foot painting of a celebrity of my choosing done.  I did Tony Parsons.  Being busy all week with the presentation for Darren's class, I had to hella rush on the painting. I started that Thursday afternoon (after my class) around 2, and finished (after a couple breaks) around 1:35 AM!
guuh!

It was a rough deal, so this weekend I'm "takin 'er easy" before getting balls deep into finishing the semester!

ALSO!  It's 7-11 day today, and I celebrated by going and getting 4 of those fucking tiny slurpees for Jason and me and having them spill all the fuck over my front-seat.
I continued this celebration by getting the trunk of my car to try to slam on my shoulder, and by having the passenger door slam on my leg because neither of these things stay open on their own!!

Other than this all I've done this weekend is hang out with my pal, Grandma, and watch Kenny vs Spenny.

LG!

South Park

Jason won't fucking stop quoting this!!

He'll do the face and everything!  Even if I'm mega-grumpy!

He says that this is the best thing he's ever seen on South Park, I guess he needs to watch Prehistoric Ice Man again, hey!?

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

"But you love your Simpsons course!"

That gender/Simpsons project I've been half thinking of/working on for awhile died!

Well, I thought it was due on the 23, but I was fucking wrong!
It was supposed to be due today... BUT, last night I e-mailed my proff, Darren saying this:

Hey Darren,

I thought I was presenting on the 23rd, which is of course, not true!

So I've been working all week trying to get this presentation done, but

the two readings (which are not a part of the course) I've found

impossible to relate. I'm still going to keep working so I'll

technically have something to present tomorrow, but I won't be

confident in it AT ALL!

I was hoping maybe to save myself the embarrassment of presenting

something I think is total garbage and do Social Class or Identity

(that looked like it was still open).

I was using Chris Turner's book Planet Simpson - the chapter titled

Lisa Lionheart and Lana F. Rakow's essay "Feminist Approaches to

Popular Culture: Giving Patriarchy Its Due." Her essay seemed like a

good source after scouring the internet looking for something I thought

was valid, but the more I try to relate the two the more I feel like a

total idiot...

So could I please switch topics? I'm sorry I am bringing this up so

late

-Alicia.

I felt like a total knob, I don't usually do this with school.  After sending this and re-reading the course outline, I realized I had really done this project COMPLETLY WRONG!!!  I was supposed to use one COURSE reading and one other theorist and compare, or whatever.  I used two of my own choosing, and then found I couldn't even fucking relate the two together!
SO, after trying to make it work, trying to make it work, refreshing and refreshing and refreshing myUFV e-mail, I started crying, pathetically!

Jason walked into the room as I was looking for a course to take Jul/Aug so I could just withdraw if Darren said "no."

He didn't though! Cause he's super cool, and probably was like "whoooooa, she did this so wrong"
After spilling my heart's contents and admitting I felt like an idiot he said

Hi Alicia,
July 7th, Identity. It's yours.

darren

Awesome!

B.J.M.

So,
The Brian Jonestown Massacre concert I've been looking forward to for MONTHS may be cancelled!

BUT, we're not entirely sure yet?
Ticketmaster and the Commodore have no clue what's up,
IN FACT, ticketmaster said "according to them the concert was still on so they're going to continue selling tickets."
And the Commodore said they've heard rumours but don't know anything for sure....

I had e-mailed Anton Newcombe's myspace (assuming, of course, it was actually him and not an imposter) asking for an interview for my radio show, Mood Swings, and he said:

"unfortunately the concert is cancelled.

i'm sorry,

a"

it also says the show was cancelled on their official myspace!  :(!

I really hope this show runs, if it doesn't there is a good chance I will die!

Joel Gion!

People are super dope sometimes!

I just watched the movie Dig! and now I am obsessed with the above!
Is it terrible that I go from one unhealthy celebrity obsession to the next?
Probably

I'll tell you about the movie later, right now I'm supposed to be doing homework!
UNTIL THEN:

HBO BROS

Jason and my own self just finished watching all of HBO's Spartacus!  There were only like 12 or 13 eps. but they were so good!

The first few episodes are sweet, but then after like 4 or something some of the characters get FUCKED, like, in the head, you know!?
It's a little 300-y, and the blood is super-duper fake, and sometimes it isn't historically accurate (according to reviewers on IMDB) but its a great show, especially if you're into stuff like that!

I don't wanna summarize the whole show, so guess who will (for the most part) for me, Wikipedia!  The only thing you don't get from there is the ba-zillions of times you get to see Lucy Lawless' boobies!  You get to see other womens too, and some full-frontal male N, but nothing beats Xena, riiiight!?

Unfortunetly, I get to be super disapointed BECAUSE the Spartacus dude got like blood-cancer or something shitty, and can't go on to do the second season (yet?).  BUT, I guess until then we have to make due with the Spartacus pre-quel HBO is making in the meantime, whenever that airs!

Whatever though, this show is totally dope so you should stop watching United States of Tara and get caught up with your ole' pal Spartacus!

Beth-st Friends!

My Grandpa and I went and saw my Grandma in the hospital today.
We were talking about how my little cousins apparently tease my grandparents dog, Beth
My Grandma said that they get it from my Grandpa
who will stomp to scare the dog and do other teasing type things

To this my Grandpa responded
"That dog just wants to fight all the time."

....Beth is the dog in the picture, a toy poodle

WE'RE THE WORST!

Jason and my bad self kind-of-recently discovered we have this song stuck in our heads super-often :(

Isn't that super terrible?  Just the chorus though, does that make it better?

Monday, June 7th, 2010

I did my radio show, Mood Swings, today!
This is how it works: the first hour or the show has a set theme or 'spotlight' on one particular artist, the second half of the show has conditions though.

If the first half of the show is a spotlight of an American (or from another country other than Canada) artist then the second half of the show will be a mix of various Canadian artists.
If the first half of the show is all Canadian or a Canadian artist then the second half is a mix of artists from any country.
And any other variation of the above, you know?!

So whatever, right?  Today I did a theme, which was Native Indians.
For that I played:
Thee Headcoats - Poccahontas Was Her Name
Thee Headcoats - Cowboys Are Square
Indian Wars - Comanche Killer
Thee Headcoats - Louie Riel
Keith Secola - NDN Kars
The Wax Museums - Cowboys and Indians
Atom and His Package - If You Own the Washington Redskins, You're a Cock
Thee Headcoats - Comanche
Beat Happening - Indian Summer
Black Lips - Navajo
Pradada - Wasted Indians

That was about 1/4 of the show.  I couldn't really find any Native titled/related songs in the Garage/Punk kind of genre

So, then I started with the mix!:
Bertha Cool - Rat King
The b-52's - 52 Girls
The Dead Milkmen - Dean's Dream
Clues - You Have My Eyes Now
The Bitters - Nurtured Disease
The Dead Milkmen - Take Me Apart
Meth Teeth - I Was Wrong
Cheater Slicks - It's OK, What You Weigh
Brazilian Money - Give and Take, It's OK

And theeeen, my iPod was almost dead, because I'm a total idiot!
So I played songs from the CIVL Station computer these were:
Fun 100 - Roger and Me
Caribou - Found Out
The Weakerthans - Civil Twilight
Wolf Parade - Shine a Light

These songs gave my iPod enough time to charge to finish my show, so I continued with:

The Gruesomes - Why Me?
Makeout Videotape - Basketball Kids
The Embarrassment - Careen
Young Governor - You're So Sad
The Marvelous Darlings - Careerist
The Creeping Nobodies - Cowbell
Sneaky Pinks - Life Stupid, I Stupid
The Fleshtones - Play With Fire
Nu Sensae - Brain Aid
Grown-Ups - Waste Your Life
Fun 100 - Kimmy Gibbler is My Girlfriend
Dayglo Abortions - Bedtime Story
Shearing Pinx - Tropical Dementia

I may have gotten the order confused, but I don't really care, if you wanna you can see for yourself and then send me vicious hate mail - you know I would love it!

ALSO, I've missed a number of shows (today was my first Monday show), so if you click a link and it's not what you're looking for (if you know what I mean) then I was probably gone on business that day, sorry!
